ultralight, ultra lite aircraft, amateur built, experimental,
homebuilt aircraft.
|
Mattison Aircraft Company of Perry, Kansas offers 3
designs of ultralight aircraft starting at under $4000 in kit form. All
three models are high wing monoplane designs
with single surface Dacron wings and 6061 T6
tubing airframes. Factory specs list a very reasonable 10-15 hour
kit assembly time with a 15-30
minute fold up or down time.
A pusher configuration with overhead
mounting allows folding of the aircraft without removal of the engine
pac. A variety of engines were available but all models use reduction
drives with large hardwood props. 3 gallon gas tanks are standard.
|
Other features worthy of mention include shock absorbing spring landing
gear, adjustable angle of attack, heavy duty spoke wheels. quick release
king post, and droop wing tips.
Kit
design offers pre-drilled tubing, pre-cut pre-sewn
dacron fabric, and pre-assembled cables, coated and doubled swedged.
The MAC 400 series is an
inexpensive weight shift model with a slightly smaller pilot cage than
the upgraded 200 series. It will accommodate engines from
15-40 H.P.
|
|
The 400 series, like the 200
serie.~, is constructed of 90% straight tubing joined with special
fittings for faster assembly time, easier repair, and lower cost all
around. This straight tubing construction allows repair or replacement
by merely cutting and drilling straight tube stock for the appropriate
location.
The 200 series is the upgraded
weight shift MAC. The pilot cage is wider than the
400 series and straight down
tubes and nose forks allow ease of replacement with increased strength.
Two special brackets have separated rear down tubes from front down
tubes, giving better
balance for larger engines. Like the 400
series, the weight shift design features a 5-way
harness. A special feature of the 200 series is the option to convert to
3-axis control by purchasing a conversion
kit.
Finally, Mattison offers a conventional 3-axis control
model in the MAC 300
series. Designed to please
licensed pilots, the MAC 300
has pedals operating the rudder and a joy stick
for the elevator and ailerons. The pilot sits in a fixed seat
with a 5-way
safety harness. An electric
starter is available as an option.
In all, Mattison offers 9 models of the MAC
from 3 designs.
