CH 701
|
The Zenair CH 701 was designed to
be a STOL aircraft. Take off roll is 120 feet on grass, and 90
feet on pavement with two onboard and full fuel. Which means
that by the time you have applied full power you are just about
ready to rotate and start flying.
The STOL CH 701 is an all metal
craft that can be built from plans or is available in various
kit forms. It is well engineered and used all metal construction
throughout. Building
times as reported by the
factory are 400 hours.
The CH 701 is available in a trigear tractor configuration. It
features side by side seating with dual controls, using a center
mounted stick.
Several have been built during the 6 day shown
at Sun N Fun at Lakeland Florida. The wings use "junker" type flaps on the
leading edge to aid in climb and reduce stall. The craft has been tested to +6 and -3 G's.
A T.U.F. VIEW
With the 582 Rotax 65 HP engine climb rate at gross comes in about 800
f.p.m.. Cruise
speed 65/70 m.p.h. stall speed on the units I have flown comes in around 35 m.p.h..
Visibility is a little restricted, and cabin noise high.
If I were ordering one I would
order the new stronger landing gear. Great little aeroplane, some describe as the
"Jeep" of light aircraft. Loose an engine on this baby
though and its a fast freight
elevator ride down.
My personal feeling is it is a little over rated.
