Brent as a manufacturer of the Chinook Plus 11 felt that we should take the additional
weight the government was offering us and get on with things. I on the other hand felt that, rather than accept something now and have to try to get it changed
later, we should fight to get what was needed.
Since that time there has been a friendly war between us...on just about anything that is
a subject of discussion.
Of course with both of us manufacturing ultralights the "friendly" feud of words
has to be taken with a grain of salt.
Back in the early 90's Brent's family took one of Canada's most successful ultralight
designs the Chinook, revamped and improved it and reintroduced it with quite a bit of
success.
This year he once again took another successful Canadian
design, - the Beaver RX 550 and after some very extensive modifications is bringing it
back on the market.
In doing so he opens up not only a market for a great two place training aircraft, for
schools around the world - But a refurbishing market for over 2,000 Beaver owners world
wide who have been without a parts manufacturer for many years.
Brent has made the updates to the wing, motor mount, etc.
all
adaptable to the older models. Not only do they make the craft safer, but they also
improve the performance. According to Brent, "the new Beaver when equipped with a 503
Rotax, comes very close to the performance of the old Beaver when using the 532
Rotax."
He also reports that the new wing decreases stall speed, increases cruise, and eliminates
the nose heaviness found in the older Beaver models.
