Both also comes with folding wings, which makes them trailerable. to and from the
airport in case you haven't access to a hangar. The factories estimate building times in
the 250 hour range. Once up and flying the figures quoted for performance looked like they
had been published by the FAA - under "ultralight definition".
To look at both aircraft you would think that they had come out of the same shop, which I
guess should be expected when you deal with the beginning's of the two companies...but the
shop I am talking about is the Skyraider which is another story in this issue.
According to factory reps the Kitfox Lite is considering offering the NEW 2si - 455cc,
28 HP engine. The new engine is still in development stages but is rated at 28 hp, and
weighs in at 50 lbs complete less exhaust, and redrive. This weight has been achieved by
converting the engine to a FREE air design, thus allowing removal of the fan assembly.
Avid on the other hand has had a single place in design and development for several
years now and actually introduced a craft called the Freedom Flyer two years ago. They apparently went back to the drawing boards and came up with the Champion. The wing uses the basic Avid wing construction with lighter spars, and of course if foldable for storage and trailering. Like the Kitfox Lite it has differential brakes, but it also offers a three position throttle. The throttle can be located in the center of the dash, beside the seat or on the left of the plane.
