PROTECTING YOUR ULTRALIGHT AIRCRAFT PROPELLER
Propeller protection for ultralights and ultralight aircraft.
All ultralight aircraft flying with an airfilter that has a chrome cap such as those
shown here should be updated to the Rotax style of airfilter that DOES NOT have
the chrome cap.
It has been reported that the cap which is glued on to the airfilter has come off in
flight. In a pusher configuration this can be very dangerous.
Another advantage of switching the the newer style of airfilter is that
the area where the
cap would normally be is now rubber, which will flex and bend if the
airfilter happens to come off.
The new style Rotax air filter also has tabs which can be used to
safety wire the filter onto the carburators.
On dual carburated engines it is recommended that the
dual airfilter be
used instead of two single air filters. The dual airfilter helps
support the carbs, and has a
closer profile to the engine meaning that not as much
weight is exerted on the carb
intake sockets.
