I. RECOIL STARTER: In order to repair starter, remove housing.
1. Remove and replace starter pawls as follow~:
(a) Remove both circlips from pawls.
(b) Remove spring pin-flat star spring washer and upper friction disc.
(c) Pull worn starter pawls off pins.
(d) Install the new pawls and re-assemble the starter in reverse order.
2. Remove and replace recoil spring and/or starter rope as follows:
(a) Remove housing and starter pawls as before.
(b) Remove second friction disc. circlip and washer.
(c) Remove rope pulley from its shaft.
(d) Remove broken starter rope and insert new rope through opening provided
and make a single knot. Press knot into notch so the knot is about even pulley
surface.
(e} Remove old recoil spring carefully.
(f) Place new spring into housing and re-assemble starter in reverse order.
(g) Before rope is being inserted through rope guide, wind up spring counter-clockwise
approx. 5 turns, so the spring pulls rope all the way in.
(h) Insert new rope through rope guide, starter grip, rope sleeve and lock
rope with a knot.
(i) Press rope sleeve into starter grip.
(j) Before replacing housing, pull rope out and make sure the spring is not
blocked before rope is pulled all the way out and stopped by its own knot inside
the rope pulley.
(k) Install housing in pulley
