M Squared Breese single and two place ultralight and light sport aircraft introduced at Sun n Fun.

The MX was one of the safest, most forgiving ultralights in the world. You could screw
up and it would literally save you from yourself. To this day it still
brings back fond memories of what then was my youth, that is if you are still youthful at
28. |
|
But like other things in life things change and to survive you have to change with it.
Thus over the years the MX design has under gone extensive modifications. The first change
was to three axis control, for better crosswind capabilities. For speed it came in the MXL
model, with a double surfaced wing. The tail section changed to tube support rather than
wire braced. |
Despite these changes the craft was still awkward to store, with the top of the kingpost
being nearly 11 feet. Add to this the fact that many conventional pilots shy away from
flying in a craft supported by wires. This limited your market - because when you look at
who is getting into ultralight flying a great many of the pilots are "conventional
pilots."
They come over to ultralights for various reasons one being the medical
requirement's.
With no medical or license required in the U.S. to fly an ultralight it only makes sense
that if you are going to take advantage of this market you should make these pilots
"more comfortable."
A long time Quicksilver employee Paul Mather has done just that with his introduction of
the "MX squared" series of aircraft. Last year Paul introduced the MX 1000
two place trainer. The craft uses struts rather than wires for support, and is true three
axis control-stick and rudder.
This year Paul introduced another in to the folks at Sun N Fun the Breeze. The Breeze is a
single place, single
surface, three axis control, strut braced ultralight, powered by a Rotax 447 engine.
The kit comes to the customer on prepackaged heat shrunk well labeled boards. Each part
clearly labeled for easy identification. With this type of packaging the customer can't be
short shipped without knowing it right away.
Assembly takes about 50 hours with no building required! Once up and flying the craft
lifts off the ground in less than 50 feet, climbs out at over 800 feet per minute and can
cruise all day a just over 45 miles per hour.
This is true grass roots aviation, bugs in your teeth, slow fun flying reinvented. For
