Single place Part 103 ultralights in the United States are defined as single
place ultralight aircraft that weigh 254 lbs or less, have a stall speed
not more than 24 knots, a top
speed of 55 knots, and carry no more than 5 gallons of fuel. To fly a
legal Part 103
ultralight aircraft in the United States the pilot does not require a
pilot license.
Single place aircraft weighing more than 254 lbs. in the U.S. require a
pilots license and must be built as experimental, amateur built,
homebuilt aircraft. These include weight shift aircraft, more commonly
known as trikes, powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.
Single place ultralights in Canada can weigh up to 1200 lbs. and an
ultralight pilots license is required to fly them. |

Innovation Engineering sold - new company, new
plane the Scepter introduced. Slipstream industries has taken over
the production and manufacturing of the Innovation Engineering line
of aircraft.
The Genesis, SkyQuest, Revelation, Flybouy floats, as
well as the Quickfix modifications will now be produced by
Slipstream.
Slipstream also introduced a new single place
ultralight design at Sun N Fun the Scepter.
The Scepter is a fabric and tube construction aircraft, similar to
the Revelation, and in fact many of the parts are interchangeable,
such as lift struts, tail booms, and tail section.
The kit is available with two different styles of wing, Stits
covered which will take about 100 hours to build or Dacron sail
cloth style which will take about half that time. |
|
The kit can be purchased in component packages, fuselage, wing tail
feathers, then a power plant. The kit is a bolt, rivet together
style of construction, no welding, bending or fabricating of parts
is required.
According to the factory the wing design has been changed on all
models as of January of 1999. The new wing is stronger and more
efficient.
The control system used on the Scepter, are the same as the
Revelation, rudder pedals with a "steering yoke" - which is quite
familiar to many general aviation pilots flying Cessna 150's etc.
While there was not a craft flying at the show, factory
representatives report that the proto type stalls around 25 mph,
with a cruise speed of 60 mph, with a take off roll of between 50
and 75 feet when powered by a 447 Rotax.
