Single place Part 103 ultralights in the United States are defined as single
place ultralight aircraft that weigh 254 lbs or less, have a stall speed
not more than 24 knots, a top
speed of 55 knots, and carry no more than 5 gallons of fuel. To fly a
legal Part 103
ultralight aircraft in the United States the pilot does not require a
pilot license.
Single place aircraft weighing more than 254 lbs. in the U.S. require a
pilots license and must be built as experimental, amateur built,
homebuilt aircraft. These include weight shift aircraft, more commonly
known as trikes, powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.
Single place ultralights in Canada can weigh up to 1200 lbs. and an
ultralight pilots license is required to fly them. |

The Aerolite
103 ultralight, amateur built experimental
light sport aircraft is a singer seat, strut
braced, high wing tricycle gear aircraft, in a pusher configuration.
The Aerolite 103 uses bolt together aluminum tube construction covered in dacron
sailcloth. Standard aircraft covering is also available.. The
Aerolite 103 has spring metal landing gear on the two main
wheels.

Controls on the Aerolite 103 are standard three axis using a yoke to control the
elevator and ailerons and
rudder pedals to steer left and right in the air and on the ground.
The Aerolite
103 is also equipped with flaps.
The Aerolite 103 is powered by a twin cylinder Rotax
447 engine through a 2.58 to 1 reduction drive.
Cruise is
55/65 mph, VNE 75 mph, stall 25 mph, climb
rate 800/1000 feet per minute.
The Aerolite
103 was first introduced in 1998 and has won
a number of awards over the years. |
