Refly
- Russia has been know for building some of the world's largest and
"unique" aircraft. Airventure 2000 was host to the introduction
of the Refly Pelican, a three place, twin engine, amphibian. According
to the translator for the builders, the craft has been in production for
about 10 years. It features side by side seating for two in front with
room for an additional seat in the back. The controls are dual stick and
rudders. The massive console allows for installation of just about any
instrument you could imagine, and the gull wing style doors are removable. The
fuselage is made from fibreglass and the wings are equipped with wing tip auxiliary
floats. The plane is available as a kit which is made up of premolded
parts. According to factory representatives the kit can be assembled in as
little as three weeks. Two 582 Rotax engines
of 65 hp provide power for the
plane. Take 0ff distances require about 150 feet, climb rate with one on
board is reported at 10 meters per second - (which calculates out to over
1800 feet per minute), cruise speed is 140 km/h (about 80 mph) with stall
coming it at 60 km/h (about 30 mph). With fuel on aboard the range is 1200
km (approximately 700 miles). The plane is
available in 9 standard kits or in 7 quick build kits. The standard kit
will require approximately 1500 hours to build while the quick build is
