Esprit DD 1 ultralight motor glider - For those of you looking for
something with a little more glide ratio than an ultralight can supply -
check out the Esprit DD 1. The Esprit DD 1
has a 43 foot wing span, is 21 feet long with a 105 square feet of wing.
At 254 lbs empty weight, 485 gross weight and 5 gallon fuel capacity
it fits into the U.S. ultralight category! Power
is supplied by two Solo 15 hp. engines, mounted at the rear of each wing,
using belt reduction drives. The propellers on the model flying at the show were ground
adjustable and folded back for better aerodynamics when the engines are
shut off. Stall speed comes in at 25 mph.
while the VNE is pegged at 80 mph. Glide ratio on the Esprit DD 1 comes in
at 26:1. Take off distance at the show on a
grass strip looked to be around 250 feet, with landings requiring around
