The UltraCruiser was designed by Morry Hummel as an all metal ultralight aircraft in 1998. First flights were in 2000.
First aircraft plan sales were in 2001. The UltraCruiser was designed for
first time kit builders as well as first time pilots, the UltraCruiser is an
easy to build and even easier to fly aircraft.
The design can be built straight from plans or is available in kit form.
The kit includes predrilled laser cut components. All parts are formed
pre-bent, or welded.
Everthing is included to complete the aircraft less the engine, prop,
spinner, and instruments.
The Ultra Cruiser can be built from plans, or from kit. Building times are reported to be
between 320 and 600 hours depending on what kit the builder is building.
The Hummel Ultracruiser can be built and flown under FAR Part 103 Ultralight Vehicles rules, and meets the
maximum empty weight of 254 lbs, with a standard empty weight of 249 lb.
The UltrCruiser features standard three axis controls with a center mounted stick, left hand throttle and rudder
pedals. It comes in a taildragger configuration, with tri-gear option available
The Ultra Cruiser has a cantilevered low wing, (meaning it has no
struts), with a 25 foot wing span and 112 sq. ft. of wing area.
The cabin width is 23.5 inch wide and is equipped with a windshield
for wind and pilot protection but can be fitted with an enclosure for
colder weather flying.
The UltraCruiser is powered by VW four stroke engine conversions,
ranging from 28 to 45 HP.
