Coming in at #5 on our list of ultralight aircraft that give you the biggest bang for your buck is the Aerolite 103.
The Aerolite 103 is a single seat, high-wing, ultralight aircraft in a pusher
configuration. The Aerolite 103 was designed by Terry Raber in 1997.
The Aerolite 103 was designed to meet FAR 103 and can be flown as an
Ultralight Vehicle it weighs less than 254 lbs, has a 5 gallon fuel limit, and
a top speed of 65 mph.
As an ultralight vehicle no license is required to fly the craft, but training
is highly recommended.
Recently the production rights to the Aerolite 103 were purchased by U
Fly It in Deland Florida, where the craft is now built and sold as a ready to
fly ultralight aircraft. The Aerolite 103 uses bolt and rivet together aluminum
construction covered in Dacron sailcloth.
The craft is equipped with rudder pedals, a control yoke, electric flaps, a steerable nosewheel and a left hand
throttle. To meet the FAR Part 103 regulations a Hirth F33 single cylinder 28 HP engine is used.
With the Hirth F33 the Aerolite 103 gets airborn in calm conditions in about 150, climbs out with a 180 lbs pilot at
550 to 600 feet a minute, cruises along at 55 mph and stalls with flaps
at 25 to 26 mph.
Since its introduction the Aerolite 103 has won numerous awards at
EAA's Sun N Fun and Airventure conventions including:
Grand Champion Ultralight, Best Commercial Design, and Reserve

It is estimated that between 300 and 400 aircraft are currently flying.
