Eureka single place ultralight
aircraft. |
It is interesting watching each year as "new
meat" enters the grinder. That is new manufacturers showing up with a new mouse trap.
The few that do make it - Like Loehle, Fisher, TEAM, Kolb etc. have done it not with
money, although it always helps - but with a good design, that fits a need, and has a $'s
and sense price to it. Oh yea and they get to spend eternity working 18 hour days 7 days a
week!
Last year I did an interview with the designer and manufacturer of the Eureka. A little
single place LEGAL ultralight in the U.S. which comes factory built from of all places
Canada. It looks like a cross between a Fisher and a Mini Max but made from tube, foam,
and fabric rather than wood.
This year at Sun N Fun who should appear with a unit ready for delivery - not to one
customer but to THREE - but Wilf Stark owner/manufacturer/designer/builder in other words
chief cook and bottle washer - of the Eureka.
Wilf had made the trip down by working a deal out with a customer for delivery of the
plane. For delivering it to Florida, he was able to use it for display for the week,
plus was supplied with room and board for the week.
While there both me and Wilf's customer took pity on poor Wilf. I saw him out working in
the hot sun, and decided I had better get him a nice ice cold $4.00 glass of lemonade,
before he passed out. While the customer seeing him working in the sun went and purchased
one of those little roofed canvas awnings that you see used at backyard picnics etc.
But Florida was not his only stop, after the show he had two more deliveries, one away
over on the west coast. With this kind of work ethic and dedication there is no doubt in
my mind that one day, in the not to distant future Wilf will have a very successful
enterprise on his hands.
