Over the years I have done a number of interviews on the Sabre trike
line of ultralight aircraft. This Sabre was on hand with a new craft the
SkyRanger. The plane was first designed in 1990 by ENSICA an aeronautical school,
the criteria for the project was for two people to be able to build the
plane in a week, with no special tools, or knowledge. To accomplish this
the Sky Ranger has no welding, or composites and uses mainly straight
steel and aluminum tubes, bolted and or riveted together. This makes for
easy and economical building and repairs, since the tubing can be
purchased locally anywhere in the world. Richard was introduced to
the Sky Ranger by his trike wing manufacturer, who is building the Sky
Ranger in the Ukrain. The Sky Ranger features side by side seating,
with a sister ship called the Jet Ranger which is tandem seating. The
wings, tail and control surfaces are covered in dacron sail cloth body
socks which makes for easy building and assembly. In the U.S. the craft
will be available in kit form from Sabre Aircraft Inc. or ready to fly
through Aero Pereyra Inc. of Rockledge Florida. Aero Pereyra will also be
distributing the craft in Florida. The base engine used is the 503
Rotax, with the 582 Rotax and 912 Rotax engines also available. The craft
is equipped with a standard stick and rudder dual control system, with 3
position flaps. Cruise using the 582 2ith two people on board comes in
at 90 mph, climb at 65 mph is 600 feet per minute with stall coming in at
32 to 38 mph at gross weight depending on flap configuration. The
doors on the Sky Ranger are hinged and can be opened and closed in flight.
The plane is equipped with a 4 point safety harness. For storage the Sky
Ranger's wings can be folded by two people in twenty minutes. A number of
planes are flying in Europe on floats and float kits will be produced by
Aero Pereyra in the U.S. For more information contact: Sabre Aircraft
