The advance in ultralight propeller design and
fabrication has been far ahead of anything in the conventional aircraft environment.
We have available to us fixed pitch, ground adjustable, and inflight
adjustable propellers for engines ranging in horsepower from 8 to 800.
A company that had its wares on display at Sun N
Fun was Powerfin. The Powerfin propeller is a composite propeller. It is
available in several different models, some for specific applications,
and various horsepower ranges.
One model of the Powerfin prop has been
specifically designed for back pack powered parachutes, another for
powered parachutes, another for ultralights using 40 to 65 horsepower,
and another for engines in the 100 hp range.
The props are available in two and three blade
configurations, which are designed to meet the "mass weight
inertia" criteria as defined by Rotax for the B, C, and E reduction
drives.
Prop adjustment for pitch is measured using a
feeler gauge, in at the root of the prop blade. The feeler gauge
measures the distance between a pin which you place into the adjuster
hole in the center of each blade and the outside of the slotted groove.
