Aircraft
Sales and Parts of British Columbia Canada has begun to produce the
venerable Beaver single place ultralight. According to factory
representatives over 2200 Beavers are currently flying world wide with
nearly 1200 of them being single place.
The new Beaver has undergone some major changes,
including a new wing, which eliminates the drag anti drag cables in the
wing, replacing them with struts. The wing covering has been
changed from dacron to ceconite, and additional ribs have been added for
a better performance and strength. The main boom has also been increased
in size to a five inch boom.
Power is being supplied by a 2 cylinder, 44
horsepower, aircooled Zanzottera engine using a 2.34 to 1 belt reduction
drive. While the plane on display had the engine mounted inverted
production units will feature and upright engine mount.
Included in the price of the new Beaver SS is a
full instrument panel, a fully steerable nosewheel, beefed up landing
gear with stainless steel shock absorbers, and a 4 point safety
restraint harness.
Preliminary flight tests using the MZ201 45 hp.
engine have produced a climb rate of 900 feet per minute, with cruise
coming in at 65 mph at 4500 rpm.
