One pilots ultralight hangar solution. |

An
Ultralight Hangar This hangar was designed by a friend of mine Dave Martin. Dave is no longer with us, he passed away several years ago, after his second battle with cancer. Dave was one of those guys that you gave a problem to and he came up with half a dozen solutions. The solution for him for an ultralight hangar, for his Beaver was to build one out of metal tubing. The unique part of the structure is that it is modular in construction. That is, it is a series of smaller steel units, bolted together. The hangar is "T" shaped - I believe it was 34 feet long and 10 feet to the bottom of the "T" with an additional 10 feet in the "I" of the "T" and 10 feet high.

Here is a close up shot of the supports plus if you look at the center part of the roof you will see a standoff. Dave hooked a cable to the center of this and ran it out to the sides for additional support.
Dave made the side the whole hangar from square tubing in sections that could be bolted, together. Here is a shot of the side of the hangar. This is one of the "modules."
For the roof Dave used wood joists connected to the front and back of the hangar "T", covered with metal roofing.
This is how Dave bolted the unit together.
The whole hangar sat on pads which were used to level it. Again note how the front and sides are bolted together.
