The Experimental Aviation Association (EAA) plans to offer enthusiasts working toward an ultralight instructor rating a special two-day course on March 18-19. The EAA has received an exemption from the FAA to designate qualified ultralight flight instructors who may provide training in two-place ultralights.

Valkrie takes to the air.

Valkyrie prototype takes to the air!
In the photo above, Richard lands the Valkyrie prototype while John and Chad pace off the distance of his last takeoff run -- about 300'. Our engineers had predicted a 315' takeoff run under these conditions, so it was good to have more of our performance predictions verified

Strike Air - Over the years I meet a lot of "grass roots aviators." Good people who have given more than their fair share to our sport.
One such individual is Steve Mahrle, of Oshkosh Wisconsin. I have interviewed Steve several times in the Ultralight Flyer video magazine on his planes the Busker and the GB Model D.
Steve now has a website at: http://www.strikerair.com/  if you've got a minute drop by and take a peak at his site.

SkyStar takes the LITE on the ROAD! - And you could win a plane!
SkyStar Aircraft Corp. the makers of the Kitfox Lite Ultralight would like  to take our aircraft on tour to your club and Ultralight Organization.
To  do so, we need to know where the organizations are most active, and which would like an up close view of the aircraft.
What we are asking is that you contact us  at joe@skystar.com and
let  us know where your organization meets, how many members you have, when you  meet/fly/etc., and we will also need a local contact.  From this we intend  to develop a plan of action to start a country tour with the Lite!
See why the magazines rave over it's flight characteristics, and why we're proud of this little plane!
Thanks again  look forward to helping any of you  in  any way I can!

Ultralight Float Flying:
I love flying on water. To me it is the only way to go! Especially in Ontario where lakes and rivers are so abundant. I became addicted to float flying on an old single place MX, since  then I have had a two place MX, 7 single placeQuicksilver MX on floats! Buccaneer XA's, 3 Buccaneer SX's, six two place Buccaneers, two  SeaReys, a Kitfox, an Avid Catalina, a Tierra, an Explorer, a Beaver RX 550, a Merlin, believe it or not a Murphy Renegade, a trike and several of my L'il Buzzards on the water.

thunderchief.jpg (32051 bytes)Thunder Chief - for those looking for the sound of a 4 stroke.
In our coverage of Sun N Fun we did a story on Larry Israel and Jim Holbrook of H&I engineering, on their 40 hp 4 stroke called the Thunder Chief. According for Larry the engines are now being shipped. "The heart of our power plant is the factory-rebuilt French Citroen 602 cc engine that is modified and retrofitted with a prop speed reduction unit. We have also built into the engine a rugged electric starter with an 8 amp alternator. The Mukuni 34 mm carburetors provide the final touch for power and fuel economy."

An easy way to check your fan belt tension!fanear.gif (10305 bytes)
One of the most neglected areas of the Rotax aircraft engine is the adjustment of the fan belt. One reason is that it is difficult to get at in most installations - thus it is ignored in preflight.
A simple way of making it easy to inspect the belt is to remove one of the "EARS" from the fan cover. I usually remove the one that is opposite the exhaust that way I don't have to go over the exhaust to inspect the belt. Use a knife or pair of wire cutters to clip the "EAR" off   just below the reinforcing. With the ear removed and the engine TURNED OFF you can use your - finger to reach in and check for fan belt tension and or inspect for damage or wear.
