Ultralight News received this from the new manufacturer
Motavia back in production?
We have recently acquired a licence to manufacture the Ford based Motavia fuel injected ultralight engine and have noted that you have visited the Motavia web site in the past. There is a new web site just published at www.klaymor.co.uk  that you might find extremely interesting. Technical specifications, interactive cutaway engines, C of G drawings, Power and Torque Curves are just a few of the new additions. It is also possible to order on line and deposits can be secured in an IATS escrow account. We are reducing the sale price by $1000 - Yes $1000, from today until after Oshkosh 2000. Our stand at Oshkosh is Ulltralight 596, so if you are visiting Oshkosh 2000 please call in and we will be pleased to discuss your project. Hope you enjoy the web site. Safe flying. sales@klyamor.co.uk

First fully water capable PPC flight.
On June 12, 2000 at 8:30am, in S.W. Michigan, a Paladin GE MK-IV equipped with Air-Tech floats and the ParaMast(tm) system, made a first flight off the water with a full stop and go landing.  The ParaMast(tm) held the chute off the water and the flight was uneventful.  Pilot was Steve Raklovits, inventor of the ParaMast(tm). Safety crew and systems engineer was Matt Dautle of Paladin Industries. (see photo here). For more information contact:

THE NEW KOLB AIRCRAFT COMPANY ANNOUNCES
DATES FOR ITS SECOND ANNUAL FLY IN
LONDON, KY. The New Kolb Aircraft Company is doing it again! They would like to announce and invite aviation enthusiasts to its Second Annual Kolb Fly-In scheduled for September 23, 2000. It will be held again at the London, KY factory located on the Chesnut Knolls Airpark.
With the great success of the first fly-in which included activities such as factory tours, voluntary plane inspections, aircraft covering seminars, contests, demo rides, mass fly-over of the World Chicken Festival, and other entertainment, it’s no wonder they came from as far away as Canada. The events included an evening barbecue with guest speakers and lots of food accompanied by delectable home made goodies. With more of the same, and then some, the second annual fly-in should be well worth attending.
To keep abreast of the details as they unfold, you can visit their web site at http://www.tnkolbaircraft.com

ROTAX "C and E" GEARBOX Clutch
No one will ever dispute the fact that a 2 cycle engine is not happy at very low RPM's with a large flywheel attached to its PTO end. The flywheel of course is the propeller.
This dissatisfaction is usually responded to with severe shaking and rough running. This action can be easily proven by simply removing your propeller from your gearbox and then start your engine. You will notice that it hums like a sewing machine (kinda), well at least it's no longer trying to shake it's self off of the motor mount. The reason for this smoothness is due to the fact that the engine is not laboring to spin your propeller at idle RPM. Even with the propeller installed, the engine eventually will smooth out at around 2800 RPM.

The need for a clutch in the Rotax gear box was originally developed for the airboat industry where zero thrust at engine idle was necessary, convenient and extremely helpful during docking procedures. It didn't take long for the ultralight owner to appreciate the smoothness offered by this system.

SlipStream Industries new twin engine SkyBlaster uses in-line engines with counter-rotating propellers to create a center line thrust that is immune to major roll inputs caused by the loss of an engine.  Simply adjust pitch and throttle, and continue on to the nearest airport to have the necessary repairs made.

Protecting your propeller - and your life!
With over 2 decades of flying ultralights under my belt I have been able to place a number of  clocks made from propellers on my wall!

While I sit here joking about it NOW, several of thes
e could have lead to conclusions which someone else would have had to write about - because I would have had my own customized set of wings and halo!
If you are flying an ultralight, trike, or powered parachute especially in a pusher configuration the following may aid you in NOT having to invest in wall clocks!
