Many aviation enthusiasts have
been quietly waiting for the completion and first flight of the
Valkyrie. At Sun N Fun they had on display a functional fuselage, since
then they have completed the molds for the tail booms, the empennage,
the wings and canard.
The fuselage has also been mounted with
a Jabiru engine, a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke air-cooled aircraft engine out
of Australia of 80 hp. The Valkyrie is rather unique in that it is 100%
computer aided engineering, by DAR corporation of Kansas.
While the plane has not as yet taken to
the air according to a factory representative " will be flying in
about 3 weeks time" "we just have to finish installing the
control system parts which are already produced by we ran out of time,
to get them in for the show."
While the fuselage is a rather
futuristic looking design, the control system is standard stick and
rudder, with the stick on the right hand side and the throttle on the
left. Seating is front and back, and can accommodate pilots well
over 6 feet!
Plans are to deliver the kit to
customers with all of the main components prebuilt, with the customer
only having to finish installing the hardware and taping the seams
together, which should take about 350 hours. No special tools should be
required -"anything you need tool wise - should be available from
Sears."
The factory is also planning on having
builders seminars and workshops.
